Why Not Me Review

Now that winter is on the way it is the perfect time to pick up a good book so you can curl up on the couch with your favorite blanket, your drink of choice (wine or coffee in my case), and a book. The book I am  recommending is Why Not Me, by Mindy Kaling, who is also the author of Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns)Screen Shot 2015-11-23 at 10.22.39 AM

Mindy has a unique voice and stands out among her contemporaries, such as Lena Dunham, Tina Fey, and Amy Poehler, all authors who I recommend as well. Why Not Me? is a great read, it is insightful, funny, and oddly full of real advice. The book is a compilation of essays, divided into four parts. Each section deals with an area of life that everyone has dealt with. The first section is titled For The Ladies, which addresses everything from spray tanning, Hollywood tips and tricks, and the importance of good lighting.

In the section titled Take This Job and Love It Mindy talks about the challenges of working in a world where you do not think you fit in. She discusses what it takes to make it in any industry and how to be happy where you are in the game of life. She does this with her winning humor. Love, Dating, And Boys Who Ru(i)n The World is the chapter which provides all the advice one will ever need to conquer the dating world and to run the world at the same time ala Beyonce. The final section, titled All The Opinions You Will Ever Need, ends the book on a good note. It ends with a very Mindy ending by giving solid life advice with a sense of humor. Mindy’s story is unique but her story can teach something to everyone about how the world works.
